HPC establishes girls wrestling

The High Plains Community School (HPC) Board of Education met Monday night to discuss changes to their activity programs. First on the table was whether or not to establish girl’s wrestling as its own sport, separate from the boy’s.

Aurora loses late lead to Lexington

It was quite the up and down week for the Aurora girls soccer team.  The Lady Huskies went 2-2 over a four-game stretch, but there was also a feeling of “what could have been.” Aurora began the week April 20 with a 4-0 road win at Seward before dropping an overtime contest at home against Lexington.

What a weekend for Ellie Hutsell and her soccer teammates.  The Aurora junior tallied seven goals during the Central Conference tournament played at Streeter Park.

Lady Hawks use pressure to overpower Hornets

Hampton and Giltner squared off for a good old fashioned cross-county CRC showdown in the regular season finale Friday, with the visiting Lady Hawks claiming a 45-30 victory.

Lady Huskies lose late lead Monday

A 20-point effort from Cassidy Knust wasn’t enough for the Lady Huskies to pull a potential upset.  A huge rally from No. 2 Grand Island Northwest in the fourth quarter catapulted the Vikings to a 55-49 win over No. 3 Aurora in the semifinals of the B-6 subdistrict tournament played Monday at York.

Cassidy Knust proved once again to have ice water pumping through her veins with her impressive statline Friday night.  The Aurora senior had a game-high 22 points, including a perfect 15 of 15 from the free throw line in the Lady Huskies’ 56-52 overtime win at home over Waverly.

Aurora put together a solid Central Conference tournament run, finishing with a 2-1 record heading to the final third of the year.  The Lady Huskies posted wins over Seward and Schuyler while ending up on the wrong end of a road contest at York.

Lady Huskies come up short against area foes

Aurora’s first home game of the season didn’t quite go to plan.  The Lady Huskies struggled to stay consistent on offense and didn’t have enough in the tank to chase down Grand Island Northwest in a 50-31 loss Saturday.
