Tiffany Senff and Tia Teigre each punched tickets to Friday night's semifinals in early round action of the first-ever NSAA girls state wrestling championships.

Senff was the first-ever Aurora girls wrestler to win a state tournament match, picking up a 5-1 decision in the opening round before snagging a first period pinfall to earn a state medal and compete in tonight's semifinals. Senff will take on Seward's Kaylee Ricketts, who sports a perfect 46-0 record entering the semifinals.

As for Teigre, the Aurora foreign exchange student from Norway had an opening round bye before picking up a first period pinfall in the quarterfinals to secure a spot in the semifinals and a state medal. Teigre will take on Melissa De La Torre of South Sioux City, who has an 18-4 record.

Aurora's other girls wrestlers didn't have similar success. Natalie Bisbee, Mae Sikes and Kehlanee Bengtson each lost opening round matchups and will be alive in the consolation rounds Friday night.

HPC's Allie Burke also started her girls state tounament run with a loss and will compete in tonight's consolations.

High Plains also lost three of its four boys with losses in the consolation round, including Hudson Urkoski, Gage Friesen and Javier Marino.

The semifinals and consolation rounds continue Friday night at 5 p.m.
