Friday night roundup week 8

Body

Aurora's Homecoming success carried the flag for area football teams in the penultimate week of the high school football regular season while our sports department was able to watch all four of our teams on display.

The Huskies bounced back in a big way after its first loss of the season a week ago, dominating Gering in its Homecoming game, 50-6. Aurora even went into its bag of tricks, letting offensive lineman Tucker Theriot get involved in the passing game, hauling in a touchdown pass. Aurora (7-1) rounds out the regular season next Friday at home against McCook (4-4).

H&H went on the road Friday and gave Wilber-Clatonia everything it wanted in an old school, physical game. The Bearcats had multiple chances in the second half, but was unable to hit the one play necessary as H&H fell to the Wolverines, 35-20.

Nevada Gloystein and Landen Rojewski rushed for touchdowns in the first half while Rojewski threw a third TD pass to Rylee Scheidemann. H&H (1-7) finishes the regular season at home Friday night against Lincoln Lutheran (4-4).

Thursday night was an area rivalry on display as High Plains visited Giltner for a 6-man tilt. Both teams scored touchdowns in the opening minute of the game, but it was High Plains who scored the next 53 unanswered to defeat the Hornets, 72-37.

HPC's Carson Swedenburg tossed six TD passes in the victory while Giltner's Brody Rudy added four TD passes of his own. The two teams combined for 368 passing yards. High Plains (4-3) finishes the regular season at home next Friday against Harvard (2-5). Giltner (2-5) will be on the road next week, taking on Silver Lake (3-4).

Listed are all area teams and the scores of those games with the winning team in bold:
