Aurora cross country runners all ran better than their season average at Friday’s state meet in Kearney, though the end result wasn’t quite what coach Tony Sigler had in mind for his Huskies.
On a picture perfect day to run at the Kearney Country Club, Aurora finished out of the medal count individually and in ninth place as a team in Class C competition. Fort Calhoun won the team race while Hartington’s Carson Noecker blistered the field with a time of 15:19, more than 80 seconds ahead of his closest competitor.
“I’d be lying if I said that we didn’t expect to have a medal out of this today,” Sigler commented. “The boys all ran faster than their season average so we ran pretty good and you know maybe this is our pinnacle. We’re going to live with it because that’s what God had planned for us and we’ll move on from it.”
Leading the way for the Huskies was senior Isaac Bisbee, who was clocked in 18:03, good for 25th place in the 119-man field. Bisbee finished especially strong coming up the home stretch, passing several runners in front of a huge crowd gathered in the sun-splashed valley.
“Isaac is a gamer who runs the best when the lights are the brightest and he showed that today,” Sigler said. “He ran a really good race. Isaac did what he does. He comes out and runs consistently, and he led the way for the team."
