Betty Wengler

Betty Wengler, age 89, of Aurora, passed away on Monday, July 12, 2021 at Westfield Quality Care.
Inurnment will be at the Aurora Cemetery at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 24. Memorials may be made to the family to designate at a later date. Higby-McQuiston Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at www.higbymortuary.com.
Betty Louise Wengler, the daughter of George and Cecelia (Kuta) Chollar, was born at Schuyler, on Nov. 11, 1931, and passed away at Westfield Quality Care at Aurora, on July 12, 2021, at the age of 89.
Betty’s childhood years were spent in the Schuyler-Columbus area, where she was joined by seven siblings.
In Columbus, on Nov. 16, 1949 she was united in marriage to Edward Wengler of Overton. In 1950, they moved to Aurora, where they made their home and raised their nine children, later welcoming sons and daughters-in-law, with 25 grandchildren, then 49 great-grandchildren, and even some great-great grandchildren.
Along with being a busy wife and mother, Betty was a care giver at Beebe’s nursing home in Aurora, and then did some waitressing at SYA Café.
Betty took pride in her family, she enjoyed gardening, canning in the summertime, sewing for her daughters, crocheting and knitting. She loved it when on Friday nights the cards would come out. Then came the Sunday dinners, her grandchildren still talk about their grandmother’s fried chicken. She taught all of her grandchildren to play dice, and would patiently play with them.        
During the months of November, she spent time in the San Diego area with her oldest daughter’s family, she visited all the area casinos, and had fun playing the penny poker games.
She loved fishing, and her family saw that she got to enjoy it up until her late 70s. Every now and then she would snag a snapping turtle and then she would tell her grandchildren all about the experience, and they would hang on every word.
She was an avid Cornhusker fan, always hoping to be the winner of the family pool.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Frank of Aurora, Sandra (Noel) Johnson of Escondido, Calif., Pauline (Bob) Bures of Grand Island, Paul Wengler of Crosit, Ariz., Mike (Kala) Wengler of Aurora, Marsha (Marvin) Anderson of Grand Island and Barbara Anderson of Grand Island; grandchildren, David, John, Kevin Wengler, Tammy Reyna, Michaela Mayes, Riley Wengler, Dave and Tom Gerlach, Mitch Johnson, Jim, Jeff and Jake Wengler, Robert Sweet, Missy Kliewer, Anthony, Brandon and Curtis Wengler, Dawnetta Heinz, Kayla Ratzlaff, Joanna Anderson, Samantha Anderson, Maria Eakes, and Stephen Anderson, Jessie Wengler and Christopher Anderson; 49 great-grandchildren, and numerous great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by a special sister-in-law, Mary Ann Chollar of Columbus.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George & Cecelia Chollar, her husband of 40 years, Edward Wengler, all of her siblings, Anthony, James, Richard, Charles, Laura Woods, Donna Chollar and Delores James; her son, Ed Jr., daughter, Debbie Sweet, and her husband Larry, brother-in-law, Orrie James; infant grandson, Jeremy Wrengler and daughter-in-law, Shawna Wengler.
