Dolores Joan (Driewer) Friesen passed away on February 18, 2023, in Geneva, Nebraska at the age of 89 years, 1 month and 11 days. She was born January 7, 1934, to Werner & Ruth (Isernhagen) Driewer in Agra, Kansas, the third of four children. The family lived in Kansas until 1936 when they moved to a farm north of Hampton, NE, and later to a farm east of Hampton.  She attended Zion Lutheran School through the eighth grade and graduated from Hampton High School in 1951. Dolores was confirmed in the Lutheran faith on March 2, 1947.  

Upon graduation, Dolores worked in York, NE, at Gambles and then York State Bank. On April 17, 1954, Dolores was united in marriage to Gerald (Jerry) C. Friesen, and they purchased their home in Aurora where they raised their family. They were blessed with three children: Randy, Becky, and Beth. 

Dolores is remembered by her children as a wonderful baker and talented seamstress as she sewed most of the girls’ clothes growing up. Later she sewed quilts for her grandchildren and also for missions. She was an avid reader, did many home improvement projects, and worked on compiling family history. She enjoyed attending her children’s and grandchildren’s games and performances. Her family was always greeted with a warm welcome in their home or at their lakeside cabin.

Dolores did the bookkeeping for Jerry’s TV repair business and worked at the Aurora News Register for many years doing ad composition.    

Dolores was preceded in death by her parents, parents-in-law, David and Anna Friesen; husband, Jerry; grandson, Chet Deichmann; brothers, Stuart Driewer and Dwain Driewer; brothers-in-law Robert Hutsell, Max Northrop, and Max Friesen; and sisters-in-law Cleo Driewer and Jean Driewer.

She is survived by her children, Randy Friesen of Rock Port, MO, Becky Deichmann of Central City, and Beth (Mark) Lightwine of Geneva; grandchildren, Stephani (Chase) Francl, Anthony Deichmann, Kimberly Deichmann, Cody (Penny) Lightwine, Heidi (Shaun) Farmer, Kelsey (Kyle) Vnoucek, Tyce (Heather) Lightwine; great grandchildren, Brynley and Kaley Lightwine, Ashlyn, Leah, and Dane Farmer, Amelia and Levi Vnoucek, Lily, Conner, Spencer, Nolan, Julie, and Ellie Francl.  Also surviving is sister, Joyce (Larry) Ediger, sisters-in-law, JoAnn Friesen and Lois Northrop, and many nieces and nephews.  

A Funeral Service for Dolores was held on Wednesday, February 22, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at Messiah Lutheran Church in Aurora, Nebraska.   Pastor Rudy Flores presided over the Funeral Service.   Karen Senkbile accompanied Thomas Peace in the singing of “What A Friend We Have In Jesus,” “Beautiful Savior,” and “Just As I Am.”

Pallbearers included Cody Lightwine, Anthony Deichmann, Tyce Lightwine, Chase Francl, Shaun Farmer, Kyle Vnoucek, and Danny Ediger.  

A Graveside Service was held in the Aurora Cemetery following the Funeral Service.
