Phillips native talks figure 8 racing, demo derby career, success

Body

Scott Bergmark of Phillips has been racing for about 15 years and crashing in demolition derbies for the past seven, enjoying every minute of it.
“All in all, racing/derbying is in my blood,” Bergmark wrote via email. “Once you do it, you just can’t stop. Something about strapping in the car and going out and competing can’t be beat. The feeling is unmatched by anything else.”
The 26-year-old driver indeed has racing in his blood. Scott’s father Dwayne competed in racing events before his birth and from an early age the son was on four-wheelers and other kinds of motor vehicles.
“It just kind of grew on us (including my brother Jamie) and soon we got old enough to do it,” Scott remembered.
Bergmark’s first race was at 11 years old at a lawn mower circle track race. By 2016, on the edge of adulthood, he was in his first demolition derby, and in 2019 he bought his first figure 8 racing car.
