Bergmark races, wrecks ahead of competition

Scott Bergmark of Phillips has been racing for about 15 years and crashing in demolition derbies for the past seven, enjoying every minute of it.  “All in all, racing/derbying is in my blood,” Bergmark wrote via email. “Once you do it, you just can’t stop.

End of an era in Hordville

A sporadic thud reverberated throughout Hordville on a chilly morning Jan. 19. Residents could be seen walking around the former school building as a construction crew chipped away at the exterior walls.

Hordville school to come down

The former Hordville school building will soon be coming down. Village board members voted last week to accept a bid from G & G Dozer, based in Caney, Kan., to demolish a three-story brick structure, parts of which have stood for more than a century.
