Despite a weather delay and some unique conditions, Giltner’s track team posted some solid results and will be sending six athletes to this week’s state track meet in Omaha.
Before a large weather storm blew through mid-afternoon, the Hornets had already secured several state qualifiers from the D-5 district track meet Thursday at Burwell.
Kale Bish had picked up a runner-up effort in the pole vault, clearing 11-8 and will have his first opportunity to compete in the state track meet while Tracy Wiles finished second in the girls pole vault event with a mark of 8-feet to become a two-time state qualifier in the event.
It wasn’t quite the day the Hornets were looking for in the throws, but Jacob Smith earned an additional qualifier spot in the discus with a PR throw of 134-1, a third place effort which will give him one final opportunity to compete in Omaha.
Taylor Smith added a fifth place effort in the discus while also taking eighth in the shot. Alex Smith added a sixth in the shot, but none of those throws were good enough for additional qualifiers.
While she didn’t qualify for state in any event, Alyssa Fastnacht came oh, so close in several events.
