The grandstands at the Hamilton County Fairgrounds were filled to capacity and then some Saturday night for a trailer race event that has become a popular draw.
A crowd estimated at more than 2,000 showed up for the main event on a cool summer evening, which was a welcome change from the extreme heat and humidity earlier in the week. The field of participants was strong as well with 33 vehicles entered in two classes, which provided an evening full of entertainment.
“We actually had to cut off attendance because we were at capacity and it was beyond standing room only,” reported Trevor Emahizer, Ag Society board chairman. “That’s the first time that’s happened with the trailer races and we were really pleased that we had that many people who wanted to come, but we were also saddened that we couldn’t accommodate all of them.”
Walker Cool of Superior won the modified class competition, edging Gavin Eberly of Aurora for the title by delivering a jarring hit to rip his trailer away after a lengthy dual. Jarrett Daugherty of Aurora finished first in the stock class competition.
Former board member Keith Wasem spoke to the large crowd before the races began, sharing a bit of history on the event.
