Tanner Wood closed out his High Plains athletic career in impressive fashion.
Wood set a new PR in the pole vault while just missing out on the medalstand and helped the 400 relay team to one of its best times of the season during the state track and field meet last week.
High Plains coach John Kucera pointed out after the meet wrapped up for Class D that Wood’s efforts in the vault was as good as anyone could imagine.
“We thought that was awesome,” Kucera said. “We talked a lot about just going out and having fun. This is your last big show and leave everything on the table and that’s what he did. He wasn’t nervous or anything. He just enjoyed the moment.”
The Class D session was held during the morning hours of Wednesday and Thursday of last week as Wood’s hectic schedule began to jam up mid-morning Thursday.
