The Aurora 4R School Board approved a $15.26 million budget for fiscal year 2023-24 Monday, which due to a $1.7 million increase in state aid and other factors will result in an estimated 8 percent decrease for local taxpayers.Supt.

Although much-needed rain showers brought dampness to the activities at the Plainsman Museum’s biennial Day on the Farm Sunday afternoon, it didn’t dampen the attitude of the dozens of people in attendance.

The Nebraska State Board of Education and staff spent three days in Aurora last week, culminating Friday with the first public board meeting to be conducted in outstate Nebraska under newly-hired commissioner Brian Maher.

Giltner School Board members approved a budget Monday for the 2023-2024 fiscal year following a presentation by Supt. Nick Mumm.The tax asking was decreased by 6 percent from last year’s rate. The approved rate is 82.004 cents per $100 of valuation, a decrease of 3 percent from last year.

Downtown Aurora will look and feel like a giant art gallery Sunday, with the 10th annual Art Walk offering a combination of art and music.Cindy McClellan, one of the event’s founders and organizers, said several changes have been made to this year’s event, beginning with the move to Sunday.

The sale of the Phillips Memorial Hall from the village to the Phillips Community Foundation which has been in the works since last spring finally passed last Tuesday night on a unanimous vote of the three village board members who actually voted.
