The grill was hot and the meats had a great bite this holiday weekend, just how America intended.The Nathan’s Famous hot dog eating contest is appointment television every year on July 4 for both the hungry and queasy. Human versus (hot) dog.

High school and college athletes had the opportunity to take their shot in A’ROR’N Days’ first shot put competition on Saturday.For its first year, 20 competitors entered the ring ranging from high school to collegiate throwers.Running the shot put event was Burger Lambrechts Jr.

Aurora Cooperative Juniors down GI at Mitchell

The Aurora Cooperative Post 42 Juniors team finished off the third of three consecutive games with a convincing 12-4 win over Grand Island Tom Dinsdale Saturday from Mitchell Field.The win followed what was an 11-6 loss Friday against St. Paul, an 8-4 loss to York and a 5-0 loss at DCB June 23.
The field is off at running at the start of a 5K race on Saturday.

MCHI sponsors A'ROR'N Days Fun Run

It was a picture perfect morning for a run Saturday, which drew a strong field of runners and walkers to the annual MCHI Fun Run, kicking off the day’s A’ROR’N Days activities.

A-Town’s basketball hero

Baylor Scheierman still remembers the first time someone asked him for an autograph. Oddly enough, it was after a freshman basketball game the former Aurora Husky played at Boone Central. Scheierman didn’t look anything like the sizable NBA athlete he’s grown into in the decade since that moment.

The final score was in no way an indication of how the entire game unfolded.The Aurora Cooperative Post 42 Juniors team lost an 11-0 game to Central City in eight innings in the sweltering Thursday afternoon heat, but it was another pitching gem from Dylan Ronnau.

The Aurora Pinnacle Bank Seniors were unable to close out a stellar pitching performance from Jack Spiehs.Aurora led Central City 4-2 when Spiehs reached his pitch count limit and was subbed out.

The Aurora Pinnacle Bank Post 42 Seniors posted its second win of the season Saturday as part of the York Vincent Senior Classic.Aurora used a late rally to earn a 6-5 win over Sutton Saturday in its second of a three-game weekend slate.

Ronnau nets 13 Ks in AC Juniors win

Dylan Ronnau’s birthday wishes included two wins and a pitching gem.Ronnau collected 13 strikeouts in six innings of work while allowing zero runs and just two hits in the Aurora Cooperative Juniors’ 8-0 win over Ord in a doubleheader at Mitchell Field Saturday.

Scheierman finds footing in the NBA

Baylor Scheierman had just dropped 20 points off the bench in a 104-96 win over the Brooklyn Nets in front of a jam-packed TD Garden in Boston. It couldn’t be further from where he came from, a small-town gym in Aurora, Nebraska, where everybody knows your name.
