Richard "Dick" Troester
Richard W. “Dick” Troester, 68, of Grand Island passed away on Tuesday, July 27, 2021.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Doniphan. Rev. Daniel Bremer will officiate. A small burial service will be in Hampton for close family.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at All Faiths Funeral Home in Grand Island.
Dick was born July 25, 1953 in York, the son of Kenneth and Gretchen (McCray) Troester. He graduated from Hampton High School, class of 1971, and then received a Bachelor Degree in Accounting from the University of Kearney in 1975.
On June 13, 1981, Dick married Cindy (Bedke) Menz. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, serving in various church offices and was Sunday School Superintendent. For several terms Dick had served as Doniphan’s mayor and was a mentor with the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Nebraska Program for over 20 years.
Dick was employed by the IRS for 41 years, retiring in 2016. Upon taking retirement, he took one weekend for himself and then began offering his services for Orphan Grain Train as warehouse manager.
Dick loved playing basketball and golf. He also enjoyed gardening and cooking and baking for others. He loved reading nonfiction, especially anything about history.
Those who will cherish his memory include his wife, Cindy; son, Neal Troester and his children, Lincoln and Linley; and daughter, Amy Troester.
He is also survived by sister, Anne (Dan) Daly; brothers, Gene (Debra) Troester, Phil (Linda) Troester, Chris (Jan) Troester and Matt (Diane) Troester; his mother, Gretchen Troester; and a plethora of nieces and nephews. On his wife’s side he is survived by brothers and sisters-in-law, Vicki (Jay) Sheer, Darcie (Eric) Buettner and Michael Bedke-Shoaff (John).
He was preceded in death by his father Kenneth Troester; several aunts and uncles; and his sister-in-law Jacque Yung.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church or Orphan Grain Train.
