Dorothy Campbell

Dorothy Campbell, age 93, of Aurora, passed away peacefully Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at Westfield Quality Care. 
A Memorial Service will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, September 28 at the Westside Covenant Church in Aurora. Pastor Karl Larson will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Aurora Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Higby-McQuiston Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Dorothy Joyce Campbell, daughter of James Quinter Lewis and Sadie Lois (Eckerson) was born in Aurora, on February 17, 1933, and passed away peacefully, at Westfield Quality Care on September 23, 2026, at the age of 93, leaving behind a lifetime of love, faith, family, and memories that will be cherished by all who knew her.
Dorothy was a devoted mother, wife, grandmother, and friend. From her first marriage, she was blessed with two daughters, Jerolyn and Laura. In August 1972, she married Wayne Campbell, beginning a loving marriage that lasted 30 years until his passing. 
Dorothy and Wayne enjoyed traveling and making memories together. They especially enjoyed spending time with family and visiting the Hamilton Motor Inn and Dick’s Cafe for coffee. Those simple moments of togetherness were among the things Dorothy treasured most. 
After graduating from Aurora High School in 1950 Dorothy worked for the Chrysler Corporation in Newark, Delaware, before returning home to Aurora. She went on to serve her community as the Clerk of the District Court for 28 years before retiring. 
Faith was an important part of Dorothy’s life. She was a longtime member of Westview Covenant Church, where she gave generously of her time and talents. She taught Sunday school, served as a youth group leader, sang in the choir, and participated in many other church activities. Her faith and her love for her church community were an important part of who she was. 
Dorothy had a personality that was impossible to forget. She had a spunky attitude and could certainly keep you on your toes! She loved to dance, especially to polka music, listen to hymns, enjoy a good piece of pie, and—if you weren’t watching too closely—sneak a sweet whenever she could. These little quirks and joys are the memories her family will hold especially close. 
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wayne Campbell; and her siblings, Thelma Salmon, James Harvey Lewis, Alice Vetter, Ralph Lewis, Fred Lewis, Wayne Lewis, Hannah Miller, Lois Lalmaugh, Keith Lewis, and an infant brother and sister. 
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Jerolyn (Lynn) Wenell of Albert City, Iowa, and Laura (Kent) Tucker of Aurora; 6 grandchildren, Lewis Wenell, Reuben (Kaili) Wenell, Brice (Samantha) Wenell, Megan (Will) Rathje, Jessica (Jared) Rojewski, Libby (Adam) Spotanski; 13 great-grandchildren, Walter, Russell, Lucille Wenell, Beckham and Delaney Wenell, Makenna, Macy and Wyatt Rathje, Kyler, Landen and Grayson Rojewski, and Noah and Madelyn Spotanski and other family and friends.
