The Streeter-Peterson House at the corner of 9th and M Streets in Aurora is a well-known local landmark that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Over the last several years the pale yellow, 2-1/2 story home has undergone renovations by its latest owners Ed and Denise Winton.
A crowd estimated at 50 people attended a town hall meeting Thursday at the Bremer Center, where a “Yes We Can” committee shared concerns with the proposed 1-1/2 percent city sales tax to be decided by Aurora voters in the May 14 primary.

More than 50 people attended a “Yes we can” town hall meeting Thursday at the Bremer Center, where a group of local residents explained why they believe Aurora can continue to grow without adding a 1-1/2 percent sales tax, and in fact why they fear that a sales tax could impede future growth.

Giltner residents will decide May 14 if they want to approve a 1 percent municipal sales tax in Giltner, which was proposed by the village board as a means of generating revenue to help fund housing infrastructure.
Voters used to mailing in their ballots will notice there’s a new look to the official envelopes this year. The new manilla envelopes provided by the Secretary of State are smaller so the ballots must first be folded before inserting in the envelope.
