ANR springs into spring sports

March 21 was officially the first day of spring, which means spring sports season has arrived as well. The News-Register carries on a proud tradition by offering a sneak peak at this year’s spring Husky, Hawk, Hornet and Storm teams.

Numerous stalled and stuck vehicles were scattered along Highways 14 and 34 that morning and I-80 was closed for a period of time from Omaha to the Wyoming border.

Blizzard knocks out power, halts local travel

The phrase “what a difference a day makes” was perhaps never so appropriate as the difference between Tuesday, March 18 and Wednesday, the 19th. Tuesday last week was a page right out of springtime, with sunny skies, balmy temperatures in the mid 60s and breezes averaging 15 mph.
Crews have been busy installing various utilities under 1st Street in Aurora for months. In mid-April, work will begin on a major reconstruction project which will shut the street down from Highway 34 to the railroad tracks.

City officials are advising local residents and area motorists that construction is scheduled to begin soon on a major 1st Street renovation project which will shut the highly-travelled corridor down from mid-April until just before school begins in August.

Hamilton County commissioners learned a disturbing bit of trivia on Monday morning, when Sharon Hueftle of the South Central Economic Development District (SCEDD) reported that Nebraska is 49th out of the 50 states for receiving funds from the federal government.

Stage set for Aurora musical

The musical season has returned to Aurora with another splash this year taking its audience on a trip to the pineapple under the sea.Nickelodeon’s “The SpongeBob Musical” will be taking the stage March 27-29, with curtains opening at 7 p.m. each night as well as a 1:30 p.m. show on that Saturday.
