Giltner board approves ’21-22 budget

The Giltner School Board approved its budget for the 2021-22 school year during Monday’s regular monthly meeting, while also hearing concerns with statements made by local citizens at last month’s meeting regarding a lack of board transparency.  The tax levy went up 5 percent from last year’s rate.

Remembering 9/11

Aurora High School students began the day Friday with a solemn tribute, citing the pledge and listening to the band play the National Anthem in honor of the 9/11 20th anniversary.

Final numbers aren’t yet in for this year’s Nebraska State Fair, but the early consensus is that the turnout was strong as the showcase event in Grand Island returned to pre-COVID activity levels.

The weekday’s of the Nebraska State Fair were filled with a flurry of activity, as the fairgrounds welcomed Nebraska’s Largest Classroom to center stage.

Plainsman’s Day on the Farm set to return Sunday

During the hustle and bustle of everyday life, the Plainsman Museum in Aurora is offering the public a chance to step back to a simpler time during its annual Day on the Farm. After being canceled in 2020, the annual event is set to return Sunday from 1-4 p.m.

The Alice M. Farr Library will soon be hosting two speakers from Humanities Nebraska through the Friends of the Library. The first visitor will be Charlotte Endorf sharing “Nebraska Spirit: The North Platte Canteen.” She will be there on Thursday, Sept. 9 starting at 6:30 p.m.

AHS Homecoming royalty

Aurora seniors Zander Stromer and Rachel Hunter were crowned Homecoming king and queen Friday night at halftime of the Huskies' 55-44 loss to Bennington.  Other Homeoming royalty included Ella Mitchell, Kaylee Crosby, Grace Ziegler, Mackenson Owens, Caden Carlson and Preston Ramaekers.
