‘End is in sight’

“It seems that an end to this pandemic may be in sight.” To hear those words coming from a local health official last week was music to the ears of area residents growing weary of the year-plus-long battle with COVID-19.

Grades, excuses, bright parents all intertwined

For all purposes the 2020-2021 school year is over and in many cases students have already brought home their report cards. Hopefully most students received praises for their grades. Of course there was the report of one youngster who was chided for his low grades.

There’s a new sheriff in town, or soon will be, and local residents can rest easy knowing there is a smooth changing of the guard pending at the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office. Kirk Handrup ended a 43-year career in law enforcement earlier this year, announcing his retirement.

Special return to Memorial Stadium

Even with temperatures sweltering above 80 degrees, goosebumps and shivers jolted my body when Nebraska coach Scott Frost said during the pregame Tunnel Walk video, “Welcome back to Memorial Stadium.” It felt just like going back home after a long hiatus. Saturday, everything felt normal.

Thoughts on thunder, faith, trust in fellow man

The late night, early morning shower that passed through Aurora this past week was again a reminder of the days when our young children would rap on our bedroom door wanting to sleep with us because the storms with the lightning and thunder scared them.
