Teamwork bests field fire south of Aurora

More than a handful of “red flag” fire weather warnings and watches have been enacted over the past week in and around Hamilton County.  These warnings, according to information released by the National Weather Service Hastings office, were issued due to low relative humidity and high winds.

House fire in Aurora quickly contained

Aurora firefighters made quick work of a small fire in a home on 7th Street Friday morning.  Aurora Fire Chief Tom Cox reported the fire was started by a stove in the kitchen. “By the time we got on scene, luckily, it hadn’t grown that much,” Cox said. “There was no oxygen getting to the fire.

Fire fueled by dry weather conditions

by Jacob Courtney  Aurora firefighters extinguished a grass fire at 10th and S roads just south of the city at around noon March 2.  Aurora Fire Chief Tom Cox reported that the a pivot  caused the fire that burned up to 40 acres of a cornfield.

There were some anxious moments at Zion Lutheran Church north of Hampton early Thursday morning after a furnace motor in the basement caught fire in the fellowship hall adjacent to the main church structure, sending smoke throughout the building and triggering an alarm.

Early morning fire claims Marquette home

Firefighters from Marquette, Aurora, Hampton and Central City gathered in the bitter cold Friday morning, Jan. 21, in an effort to battle a fully-involved house fire on Marquis Ave. The call went out sometime before 2:30 a.m., followed by a call for mutual aid.

Aurora firefighter recognition

Members of the Aurora Fire Department gathered to celebrate their own Dec. 13, recognizing several members for outstanding achievement and milestone years of service.
Hamilton County will now be served by two ladder trucks at the Aurora and Giltner fire departments. Aurora passed off its green 65-foot ladder truck to Giltner Fire Chief Brad Consbruck (left) last week, and Aurora Fire Chief Tom Cox welcomed a 100-foot ladder truck to the Aurora fleet.

Thanks to conversation between friends and a special program offered by the Nebraska (and U.S) Forest Service, both the Aurora and Giltner volunteer fire departments received new pieces to their firefighting fleet. The exchange took place Aug. 18, much to the appreciation of both departments.
