Hordville VFD protects more than just the town

While the community of Hordville in northern Hamilton County has a population of just 137, the Hordville Volunteer Fire Department is responsible for fire protection for many square miles of crop and pasture land in the area, plus many newer homes situated on lakes near the Platte River.

In addition to the work done by sheriff’s deputies and local police, roadways in Hamilton and York counties are also patrolled daily by 10 troopers of the Nebraska State Patrol (NSP) who are members of what is known as the York/Aurora Group of Troop C, headquartered in Grand Island.
