Unemployment claims drop by 7.2%

The Nebraska Department of Labor announced that there were 2,631 new regular unemployment claims filed last week, a decrease of 7.2 percent over the prior week when 2,838 claims were filed.

More than 9,000 people visited the Aurora Aquatic Center during a pandemic-shortened season this summer, which came to a close last week without any reported COVID cases or incidents.

Man sentenced for dumping hazardous waste near Aurora

United States Attorney Joe Kelly announced that Edward Miller, age 44, formerly of Sidney, Neb., was recently sentenced by Senior United States District Judge Laurie Smith Camp to 33 months’ imprisonment for the disposal of hazardous waste without a permit near Aurora.

Hampton TDLC Cruise Night gets people out and about

The 19th annual TDLC Car Show in Hampton highlighted Friday night with its usual array of classic cars, classic music and barbecue sandwiches for all to enjoy.

New Aurora alumni scholarship established

An unusual year, 2020 has seen many changes in activities which also includes the Aurora Alumni Association. With no banquet or reunions this year, there has been no revenue to fund the scholarships that this organization provides.

Driver, vehicle deadline approaching on Aug. 31

Gov. Pete Ricketts’ announcement at the start of July rescinding Executive Order 20-05 began the countdown for Nebraskans to ensure their driver license, vehicle title and vehicle registration are up to date by Aug. 31. Any new car sales tax or fees currently due, must also be paid by Aug. 31.
