Deer firearm hunting season ended this weekend, with area hunters reporting less than usual success filling their tags. T&L Liquor, the only check-in station in Hamilton County, reported 202 tags checked in as of Monday, down considerably from previous years.

Harvest spectacle never gets old, even for city kid

There’s something uniquely Nebraska about fall harvest, even for a city kid. It’s massive in scope, literally and figuratively. It’s fun to watch as the landscape changes by the day, with ripe fields of soybeans and corn being swept clean, proceeds headed for the elevator.

Harvest season a welcome sight, but also a time for caution

It’s worth the time to make a special trip these days out into the field or to an area elevator to watch a timeless harvest tradition unfold. Just remember to do it safely.  As the combines start rolling, we are reminded that this is one of the most dangerous seasons of the year in farm country.
