Aurora’s girls basketball team was all smiles Thursday night.
A win on senior night was just the beginning. As the girls put it walking off the floor, they have a winning streak.
Aurora jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, defeating Crete 43-32 in its final regular season home contest.
Aurora coach Kelly Boshart had a similar smile to the players after the game, noting the entire team wanted to play well for its seniors, who include Rylee Olsen, Ellie Hutsell, Kaylee Crosby, Taylor Janda and Kana Yamada.
“We wanted to send our seniors out in style and they played really hard,” Boshart said. “Every player had that in mind to get a win for their seniors tonight.”
Aurora’s starting lineup looked a bit different with Olsen, Hutsell, Crosby and Janda four of the five starters.
The Lady Huskies started the game with a quick pace offensively, using a 9-4 run in the opening minutes with a couple jumpers from Kasey Schuster.
Denae Nachtigal added back to back shots later on in the quarter as Aurora took a 13-10 lead after the opening frame.
“We worked a lot on taking care of the helpside and recognizing who their threats are,” Boshart noted. “We did a really nice job to cover up their threats and closing out.”
The Lady Husky defense had one of its best quarters of the season against Crete, nearly holding the Cardinals scoreless in the second while pulling ahead.
