Huskies battle huge field, weather in Seward

The Aurora cross country boys had their hands full at the Charlie Thorell Invite in Seward Thursday where a young Husky squad competed without its No. 1 runner on slick, hilly terrain.
The end result was a valuable learning experience for a Husky team that finished 12th in a 14-team field.
“This is not an easy course to run,” noted coach Tony Sigler. “It’s just not an easy race with the schools and amount of people that are in it. It’s the first 5K of the season and there are a lot of emotions and anxiety going into it, especially when the gun goes off because you start to panic and you’re burning up energy because you are nervous to begin with.”
Already battling an adjustment with the race start time moved up an hour and a half, the Huskies learned on race day that lead runner Isaac Bisbee was not able to make the trip.
“Not only is he a senior and a great runner, but he’s also a vocal leader of the team so kids really fuel off of him,” Sigler said.
