Wyatt Urkoski penciled his name into Friday night's semifinal round with a pair of wins to begin the Class D state wrestling championships Thursday morning.

Despite a heavy blanket of snow outside, the action heated up inside the CHI Health Center as Urkoski won an 8-1 decision over Ethan Norton of Maxwell. In the quarterfinals, Urkoski picked up a first period pinfall win over Gunner Roberson of Garden County. Urkoski will face off with Howells-Dodge's Lane Belina Friday night in the semifinals.

Three other Storm wrestlers, Levi Russell, Gage Friesen and Lance Russell all won opening round matchups to get into the quarterfinals, but none of those three wrestlers could win a second match and will be active in consolation rounds Friday morning. Hudson Urkoski lost his opening round match and will battle through consolation rounds Friday.
