Aurora’s girls soccer team was defeated by Grand Island Northwest by a 6-2 score during semifinal action of the B-6 subdistrict tournament May 3.
The Vikings eventually went on to win a district final game and qualify for its first-ever state tournament appearance.
Aurora coach Micayla Dunn explained that Northwest’s ability to move the ball so well leads to a lot of scoring opportunities and as a result its first-ever state bid.
“They are a pretty complete team. They move the ball really well and score goals in abundance,” she said. “They have a group of young players that have played a lot of soccer together, so they know where their teammates will be at all times and do a good job of keeping possession.”
