The Aurora Cooperative Post 42 Juniors team has found a bit of success in recent games and coach Jeremy Burgener is hopeful that will continue to trend upwards.
A 12-4 win over DCB June 15 was the team’s third in a row to that point, but an 8-5 loss to Wood River Thursday and 8-5 loss to St. Paul Sunday followed.
“I think they finally saw that they are a good team and can win games,” Burgener noted. “Coaches have been saying it all season because practice with these guys goes awesome but it’s not always transferring to the game.”
In the win over DCB, Aurora scored four runs in the first inning with a RBI single from Owen McKinney and RBI triple by Booker Scheierman. Thanks to some timely baserunning, the Aurora Cooperative Juniors led 4-2 after the first.
That lead ballooned to 9-3 after the second thanks to more timely plays from Aurora.
“We had the timely hits in this one,” Burgener said. “Timely hits have been really hard to find up to this point in the season.”
