Laurie “LaRie” Goertzen, age 85, of Aurora, passed away on Sunday, February 7, 2021 at Memorial Hospital.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 10 at the Aurora United Methodist Church.  Rev. Michelle Reed will officiate.  Interment will be at the Aurora Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at the Methodist Church 1104 A St.   Current CDC guidelines will be followed.  Face masks are required.  The service will be livestreamed thru the Aurora United Methodist Church Facebook page.  Memorials may be made to the family to be designated at a later date.  Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at www.higbymortuary.com.
Laurie Irene Goertzen, the daughter of Frank E. and Flora Jane (Thompson) Batman, was born in Quinter, Kansas on August 30, 1935 and passed away in Aurora, on February 7, 2021 at the age of 85.
She grew up in Gove, Kansas.  Laurie was the youngest of 10 children. She enjoyed working at cafes and restaurants in her early years.
Laurie was united in marriage to Denton Goertzen on May 14, 1955 at Grand Island.  They made their home in Aurora.  They had three children: Rick, Curtis and Sheila.  Laurie was a motel manager for 25 years and Avon Representative for many years.
Laurie was a member of the Eastern Star, the Red Hat Society, Methodist Church and when her sons were younger, she was a Cub Scout Leader.  She was on a bowling league and liked to play baseball, basketball and in high school was on a volleyball team in her younger years.  LaRie was known for her cooking, gardening and her flowers, especially her roses.
She was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Tyson Goertzen; 7 sisters, Amelia, Tura, Nora, Mable, Ann, Esther, Mary Jane; 2 brothers, Joe and Tommy; in-laws, Abraham J. and Minnie (Friesen) Goertzen and 3 brothers-in-law, Milton Goertzen, Everett Goertzen and Rollie Trautman.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 65 years, Dent of Aurora; three children, Rick (Carmen) Goertzen, Curtis (Andrea) Goertzen and Sheila Goertzen, all of Aurora; 7 grandchildren, Sedrick, Bradon, Tyson, Carrie Lynn (Blair), Brad, Dan (Julia) and Valencia; 13 great-grandchildren, Maria, Julian, Antonio, Juanita, Anastacio, Joey Lynn, Riley, Bentley, Koalbey, Jacob, Bella, Camille and Calem; 2 great-great grandchildren, Leonardo Tyson and Dakota Kay Patterson and many other relatives and friends.
