Donald “Woody” Wittulski, age 83, of Grand Island, passed away Sunday, August 9, 2026, at the Riverside Lodge in Grand Island.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, August 13 at the Chapel of Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora. Inurnment will be at a later date. No Visitation. Donald “Woody” Gene Wittulski, the son of James and Dorothy (Osantowski) Wittulski, was born in David City, on April 6, 1943, and passed away in Grand Island, on August 9, 2026, at the age of 83.
Woody grew up in David City, where he attended David City Public School through the 10th grade. He entered the U.S. Navy in 1960 and served in San Diego, California before being honorably discharged on March 10, 1964.
Woody was united in marriage to Shirley Ann Sabata on May 6, 1961, in San Bernardino, California. To this union two daughters were born, Denise and Tina. Woody was never afraid of moving mom to a new adventure from working as an employee to being his own employer: Woody’s Bar, Woody’s Pool Cleaning and Woody’s BBQ.
Woody enjoyed fishing, water skiing, hunting, golfing, scuba diving and jogging pants and croc’s.
He was preceded in death by his wife; father; mother and step-father and brother, James Wittulski.
Those left to cherish his memory include his two children: Denise (Jay) Splinter of Hampton, Tina (Butch) Moural of Grand Island; 9 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his two step-brothers, Denny (Pat) Houska of Kearney and Gary Houska of Norfolk and other family and friends.
