Janice Opp
Janice Opp, age 84, of Aurora, passed away Monday, February 9, 2026, at Memorial Community Care.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, February 14 at United Methodist Church in Aurora. Rev. Michelle Reed will officiate. Interment will be in Aurora cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in care of the family to be designated at a later date. Janice Kay Opp, the daughter of Dale Donald and Thelma Jeanette (Penner) Fenster, was born at Aurora, on August 9, 1941 and passed away in Aurora, on February 9, 2026, at the age of 84.
Janice grew up in Aurora and graduated from Aurora High School.
Janice was married to Richard Arlen Zehr on February 21, 1960, and they had two sons: Doug and Todd. During this time Janice worked at Bankers Life Nebraska for 18 years and then worked for the Gallup Organization for a total of 17 years.
Janice was married to Lloyd “Butch” Opp on July 8, 1984, at Grand Island. Janice worked for Grand Island Public Schools for 10 years, until retiring in 2011. She continued to work part-time for Nitta’s Bed & Breakfast until 2022. Butch passed away on July 17, 2009.
Janice loved spending time with family and close friends, doing home improvement and decorating projects. She enjoyed bowling, sewing, gardening, spending time outdoors, fishing, boating and relaxing at the cabin with her lake family. Molly was her furry companion for 16 ½ years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lloyd “Butch” Opp and brother, Larry Fenster.
Those left to cherish her memory are her two sons, Todd (Cathy) Zehr of Lincoln and Doug (Donita) Zehr of Lee Summit, Missouri; two step-daughters, Lori (Bob) Opp Crosby of McCool Junction and Stacie Opp-Bass of Brush, Colorado; 3 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren and 9 step-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Bev (Keith) Collingham of Aurora; sister-in-law, Judy Cole of Alexandria, Virginia and many nieces, nephews and special friends.
My family meant the world to me, loved them so much and so proud of them.
