Linda Rae Christensen-Ohlson was born on February 14, 1947 in Ogallala, to her parents Raymond and Luella Christensen. Linda, her two sisters, Vicki and Susan, and her parents lived in the North Platte, Maxwell, Brady, and Ogallala area all of their childhood.
In 1965, Linda graduated from OHS with academic honors. She was accepted into the Pharmacy Program at Kearney State College, where she became an active member of Alph Phi Sorority. Linda was in her second year of college when she married Jerry Ohlson. Shortly after that, Linda put her college on hold and they started a family: having four children: Tara, Tonya, Cory, and Clint.
Linda and Jerry started with opening a Dry Cleaners in Grant. They operated that for 3-4 years and then moved to the Grand Island area. Linda resumed college in 1977 and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. Linda’s first teaching job was at Grand Island Public Schools-Westridge Middle School. Linda taught 6-8th grade reading and math for 16 years. Linda and Jerry built a beautiful country house north of Phillips and raised their family and called it home until Jerry tragically passed away in 1993.
At age 46, Linda sold the acreage, moved to Denver, Colorado for a short time and taught adults English as a Second Language. In 1998, Linda moved to Istanbul, Turkey for four years. She taught International Middle School Age children, while traveling Europe and Asia.
Missing her family and friends, in 2002, Linda moved to Nebraska. She continued her public-school teaching in Omaha and Grand Island, until she retired at age 61 years-old. In 2012, Linda moved to Aurora, bought a house, and involved herself with her children, grandchildren, friends, and community. Linda became the Teammates coordinator/mentor for AHS, she volunteered at the Plainsman Museum, Aurora Thrift Shop, and the Nebraska State Fair; was active with book club and her ladies’ group.
Linda was a dying optimist; very independent, motivated, creative, and intelligent. She was an avid reader, writer, outstanding cook, and seamstress and loved to travel. She challenged herself to stay up with technology, journaled daily, and took pride in attending her grandchildren’s activities. Linda was best known for Living by the Golden Rule and encouraging others to do so. Her kindness, beauty inside/out, her ability to laugh at herself and not take life too seriously, and her delicious cinnamon rolls with homemade peanut butter frosting will be missed.
Linda was preceded in death by her father, Raymond; mother, Luella; and husband Jerry.
Linda is survived by sister Vicki (Glen) Kotschwar; sister Susan (David) Driggers; daughter Tara (Brad) Snyder; daughter Tonya (Dale) Eurek; son Cory (Tracy) Ohlson; son Clint (Megan) Ohlson; nine grandchildren: Leah Snyder, Dillon Eurek, Connor Eurek, Logan Mertlik, Jerad Snyder, Tanner Willis, Megan Barger, Wade Ohlson, and Addisyn Lanham; and ten great-grandchildren.
