In a wildly stacked A-1 girls district wrestling event, HPC’s Dakota Gress came up one win short of making her first state championships.
With only one girls competitor on the mat, Gress has battled tough all season long and did the same at this weekend’s A-1 district meet in Fremont, which featured a loaded roster of ranked wrestlers and almost 40 teams.
After a first round win Friday, Gress lost in the 120-pound quarterfinals to Isabelle Skrdla of Pierce, setting up a long Saturday of wrestling and surviving.
Her first consolation round Saturday set up an area matchup as the HPC freshman battled Aurora’s Emily Bohlman.
The two tussled for more than four minutes before Gress got the upper hand and eventually the pinfall victory to move on.
