Bates House in need of major repairs

The historic Bates House in Aurora is closed to the public now due to a deteriorating roof structure that will cost more than an estimated $84,000 to repair.
Tina Larson, executive director at the Plainsman Museum, reported this week that water leaks into the house have caused significant damage over time, prompting the decision to close the doors for safety reasons. The cost to fully restore the house beyond the initial roof repair work needed would actually be much higher, she noted.
