It was quite the debut for HPC’s freshmen.
The Lady Storm’s two leading scorers were playing in their first-ever high school basketball game and played well enough to carry HPC to a 41-29 win over area-rival Giltner in Polk Friday.
Peyton Hofmann had a stellar statline, including a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds, eight of which came on the offensive glass, while adding five steals. Gahvi Lesiak added eight points and three steals in her Storm debut.
High Plains coach Mack Alspaugh was more than happy for both Hofmann and Lesiak, gaining much-needed confidence to play varsity ball.
“That’s a great game for those two, hopefully build some confidence that they can play varsity-level basketball,” Alspaugh said of Hofmann and Lesiak. “It’s good for them to feel like they can contribute and score.”
