Fast start leads to fourth straight Husky win
Peterson still seeking improvement with 4-2 mark
Aurora jumped out to a fast start and dominated McCook in nearly every phase of the game Friday, though coach Kyle Peterson said the Huskies didn’t take the steps forward he was hoping to see in a 32-10 win over the Bison.
In a game that has become an anticipated Class B showdown, the Huskies controlled the line of scrimmage most of the night and raced out to a 25-3 first-half lead. In fact it was all Aurora in the early going, as McCook struggled to move the ball at all, gaining only 25 yards at the break, compared to 236 for the host Huskies.
The Big Red set the tone early, holding the Bison on a three and out and then scoring quickly, with Mack Owens finding a gap in the left side of the line from 1 yard out for the game’s first score. The same scenario played out again on another three and out, as Drew Knust then found Britton Kemling with a 16-yard TD pass to make it 15-0 still in the first quarter.
The defense added to the lead early in the second quarter as Branson McDonald bobbled a punt snap in the end zone and was swarmed by Huskies. Carlson Collazo delivered the final hit to bring him down, adding two points for the home team with a safety. At that point, McCook had only moved the chains one time in what looked like the start of a blowout.
