Slow start costly in Huskies’ opener
Aurora comeback falls short in 42-14 loss to North Platte
After a slow start in the season opener, the Aurora Huskies scored two touchdowns just before the half and looked poised to battle North Platte to the finish Friday before a costly turnover put the momentum back on the host Bulldogs sidelines for good.
It was a disappointing start for Coach Kyle Peterson and Co., who said his team played well at times in a 42-14 setback, though not nearly consistent enough to beat a quality Class A opponent.
“We had a lot of opportunities to get off the field and we missed tackles, which in some cases was a credit to their kids for being really good players, and in some cases we needed better tackling technique,” he said. “It’s just some details that you can take away from Game 1 and hopefully get better in Game 2.”
The season opener started with a fizzle rather than a bang, as the Huskies gave up two quick touchdowns in the first six minutes of play. North Platte drove the length of the field on the opening drive to score, then blocked a punt after a three and out, setting up a short field and another quick TD. It’s not the way Peterson expected to start the game, or the season.
