Aurora Pinnacle Bank Seniors end season in district action

The Aurora Pinnacle Bank Post  42 Seniors team made a few adjustments on the fly during the Class B Area 1 tournament in Fairbury this weekend hoping to extend its season.
It worked, as Aurora used several small-ball tactics at the plate to defeat Crete and nearly pick up a win over York.
Following a 12-0 loss to Beatrice to begin the tournament Friday, Aurora defeated Crete 9-1 in the first consolation round Saturday while ending up on the wrong end of an 8-4 score to York in eight innings Sunday.
Aurora coach Jeremy Burgener credited a change in offensive philosophy to its success in the area tournament.
“It was a very close game,” Burgener said of Sunday’s finale. “We started playing small ball in this tournament because we haven’t hit the ball well. We relied on our defense pretty heavy.”
