Pair of Giltner throwers to make 1st state appearance

Body

One thing that had Giltner assistant track coach Chip Bartos smiling from ear to ear last week was the turnout from the Hornet boys in the throws.
At day’s end, two Giltner boys qualified for state in the throws while the Lady Hornets added a couple representatives as well.
The Hornets were in action May 12 at the D-5 district track meet in Fullerton, ending the meet with a total of four qualifiers -- two boys and two girls.
Early in the day, it was Giltner’s throwers who were making waves during the field events.
The Hornets had three of the top six finishers in the boys discus, with Jacob Smith earning a runner-up effort and a state ticket to boot. Smith’s throw of 115-06.50 was one of his best of the season, coming on his first throw of the finals when he needed it most.
