Aurora fire training center ensures ‘everyone goes home’
The Aurora Volunteer Fire Department has been hard at work, training to keep both themselves and their community safe.
Though not always faced with situations they can predict, it’s important to be ready for it. This is one of many reasons why the department constructed the Jon Hope Memorial Training Center on the east side of town.
The land was donated by the City of Aurora and the funds were gathered by means of grants and donations, but this came after the initial idea was brought to being.

Aurora Flag Friday
They’re easy to spot on Fridays, with an abundance of red, white and blue on display at the back of their vehicles.
Flag Friday was started in Aurora by a group of patriotic high schoolers concerned about the fate of patriotism in the community around them.
“Flag Friday originated out of Aurora in the late months of 2020,” group-founder Connor Smith explained. “A few students at Aurora High School started to notice that patriotism was starting to fall apart and they decided that something needed to happen. Flag Friday was (thus) started to show the people that protect, serve and defend this country (that) they will never be forgotten.”
Almost a year later the Flag Friday group has gained attention state, country and world-wide via social media.

Scaring up good times, donations at haunted walk-through
As Halloween draws near, people are preparing themselves for spooks and frights. This year they won’t have to look far as Carl Franklin has already begun to construct his haunted walk-through experience in Aurora.
The town has already been given a sneak-peak through his Halloween countdown and revolving spooky scenes as he prepares for his second year at 1204 9th St.
Now, as the end of the month draws near, passersby can see the final display taking shape.
The event is slated to take place Oct. 28-31 from 6-10 p.m. Dubbed “Angry Ginger presents ‘Scaring up some vittles for the holidays,’” Franklin’s goal is to get free-will donations for next year’s display or canned food items for the local food bank.=

Dropping the hammer
With the playoffs on the horizon, Aurora was given a huge test on Grand Island’s North Road.
While coach Kyle Peterson probably won’t give his team an A for the whole game, what the Huskies did late was big in terms of their playoff hopes.
Aurora took a halftime deficit and turned in 29 second half points behind a bevy of big plays, defeating Grand Island Northwest 41-27 to bring home the hammer in its rivalry game. =

Kuehner, Lady Huskies win gold
The Aurora girls cross country team has been waiting for and working toward the opportunity to run all together, healthy, and the Lady Huskies picked a good time to do it Thursday at the C-4 district meet on a home course in Streeter Park.
Facing a run well or end the season scenario, the Aurora girls combined for the best performance of the year, capped by an individual gold medal and a team championship. =
