Scary good time results in high food donation total
Franklin donates 463 pounds of food to pantry last week
The heart of Aurora was the place for spooks and goblins, all for a good cause over Halloween weekend.
Aurora native Carl Franklin scared up plenty of good times over Halloween weekend and while doing so put together a big donation for the Hamilton County Food Pantry.
Dubbed “Angry Ginger presents ‘Scaring up some vittles for the holidays,’” the entry fee was simple -- a donatable food item.
After the Halloween weekend, Franklin and his helpers donated a total of 463.8 pounds to the Hamilton County Food Pantry Nov. 2.
“It was a good turnout as far as everything goes,’ Franklin reported. “We’re already looking forward to next year.”
Inclement weather cost Franklin visitors on that Thursday, while reporting a light crowd the following night.
The weekend was when things took off with hundreds of people coming through to be scared. Franklin estimated around 450 visitors over the weekend.
“I think we did good crowds and we donated quite a bit of food,” he said. “I was happy with everything. Everyone had fun and no one got hurt.”
Franklin hopes to continue this tradition in the coming years, making the event bigger and better, while maybe helping other charities, too.
But, he added a willingness to keep the food pantry on the to-do list because they’re always in need of food.
“I want to keep it free as much as possible,” Franklin said. “We had kids show up, realize we were doing a food donation, go out and get food and bring it back. That really warmed my heart.”
Franklin noted several visitors coming back through multiple times and having fun with it all, while adding an excitement for next year.
“The show will be bigger and better next year,” he said. “I am having fun and just want to give back.”
