Debbie Sorensen of Phillips joined the Hamilton County Board of Commissioners meeting Monday to air her concerns on the proposed Kansas Nebraska Heritage Area designation that, if passed, would include Hamilton County land.
“This administration is moving fast to gain government control over private owned land, homes and communities with another avenue -- the Kansas Nebraska Heritage Area partnership,” Sorensen began. “Most of the 49 counties -- 26 in Kansas and 23 in Nebraska -- involved in this movement have adopted their resolutions of opposition. Today, 38 counties in Kansas and Nebraska have passed resolutions.”
Much like the 30 by 30 initiative, the Kansas Nebraska Heritage Area Partnership is about “conservation,” she added.
“Farmers and ranchers are 100 percent for conservation. We’re just not for easements giving government control. Real crop yields through conservation practices already in place, such as minimal water with pivots, no-till, GPS application of chemicals down to the very inch where needed, are incredible. The conservation practices of the stewards of the land should remain in their hands, not the government’s.”
