Friesen gives Nebraska lawmakers a B for 2021 session
Dist. 34 senator already working on agenda for 2022
Now back at home on the family farm in rural Henderson, Dist. 34 Sen. Curt Friesen paused to reflect this weekend on the 2021 legislative session, grading Nebraska lawmakers for work done in what Gov. Pete Ricketts called “an historic session.”
“I’ll give it a B, but that’s being generous,” Friesen said.
Having now completed his seventh year in the legislature, Friesen said what made this year’s 90-day session “historic” is that lawmakers were working in a pandemic era with far more revenue than projected.
“It was a totally different session because we had money for the floor to spend,” he explained, noting a similar experience during his first year in office back in 2015. “In the past it seemed we were discussing more policy, but this time we were fighting over money, so to speak. The things that were happening because of the dollars that were there and the deals that were made were different than any other year since my freshman year.”
