The Plainsman Museum hosted its annual meeting Sunday, reviewing progress and updates made during the past year while also sharing a first glimpse of technology being developed to enhance guests’ experience with videos and historical scripts narrated by local volunteers.
Just in time to open the holiday season, the Plainsman Museum in Aurora will be hosting its bi-annual Christmas on the Boardwalk event Friday from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Now open again to public viewing, the Plainsman Museum welcomes guests to its Wesley Huenefeld Agricultural Museum.  Alongside other special exhibits, or rather atop other special exhibits, sits a number of scale buildings that most may recognize as local pieces of history.
The Plainsman Museum in Aurora has been on a constant path since the beginning of 2022 -- and probably far longer -- to be loud and proud about the history of Hamilton County and its people.

Agriculture is a keystone in Hamilton County and so too is the history behind it.  There is no better place to showcase said history than the Wesley Huenefeld Agricultural Museum, a part of Aurora’s Plainsman Museum.

Plainsman recaps busy, challenging year

Staff, board members and volunteers reviewed a busy yet challenging year during Sunday’s annual meeting of the Plainsman Museum. Though the doors were open much of the year after a virtual pandemic shutdown in 2020, the number of visitors and activities still reflected COVID-19’s on-going impact.
Located at a familiar site, the Hamilton County Courthouse, this photo was taken in the 1895-96 era. It captures Sheriff A. J. McConaughey sitting at his desk (far left) across from his son, and deputy, B. E. McConaughey. Also pictured is janitor Charles Davis (far right). The fourth man, located in the back, is unknown.

One of the many agencies in Hamilton County that has been a part of its history since incorporation, the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department has seen its fair share of years.

Passion for cars unites volunteers Gary Bayne, Dale Saddler, Walt Jacobs and Don Bish share a passion that has united them. Together they have become a volunteer group at the Plainsman Museum with a mission of bringing vintage vehicles to life.
