Jayden Slagle already had the best triple jump in the state of Nebraska this spring. The Husky senior quite possibly put a new mark out of reach for everyone else and now has sights on a potential state record at Burke Stadium.Slagle cleared 49-6.

Giltner coach Nancy Lockmon said the Hornets didn’t show up to Kenesaw last week to win a district title. The goal was to get as many kids to Omaha as possible. The Hornets ended up doing both.

Unofficially, the Hamilton County area is sending 33 athletes to next week's state track and field championships to Burke Stadium. The Huskies feature a total of 12 state qualifiers, six apiece on the boys and girls side.

Aurora’s boys soccer team was unable to overcome a lightning-quick start from Northwest in district play last week. The Vikings scored four goals in the opening 21 minutes and despite adding two second-half goals, Aurora’s season came to an end with a 6-2 defeat to GINW May 5 in the B-6 district.

Although a bit soggy and cold, the Huskies found some success at Tuesday’s Central Conference track meet in Lexington.The Aurora boys ended up in the top three of the team standings, earning 90.5 points behind Northwest’s 159.5 and Seward’s 117.

As the temperatures warmed up on Saturday in Shelton, Giltner’s lead in the girls team standings increased alongside it. The Lady Hornets pulled away late in the day to earn its first Twin Valley Conference championship since moving to the conference three years ago.
