Knust ends career with silver medal, new 800 PR

Huskies finish state track meet with six medals; boys tied for fifth in competitive Class B team race

alking off the Omaha Burke track surface for a variety of reasons. The Aurora senior had just clocked a 2:22.78 time in the 800, a new personal record for herself. While that took most of what she had left in the tank, reality began to set in that her track and field career had just come to a close. 
Knust had a solid state track run, finishing second in the pole vault while adding an eighth place effort in the 800. Her new PR time of 2:22.78 moved her to 11th on Aurora’s all-time list. 
“It feels good to do that and go out on a high note,” Knust noted. “Coach (Zach) High told me to get out fast and maintain the pace with the leaders. I really tried to do that and it paid off.”
Aurora coach Gordon Wilson pointed out after the meet that while every athlete wants to be their very best, Knust was that for the Lady Huskies more times than not. 
“I know like any athlete, they’d like to have done a bit better, but Cassidy competed very well this weekend,” Wilson said. “We’re pretty darn proud to have her wearing an Aurora jersey.”
