Susan “Sue” Regier left behind a legacy of resilience, generosity, and spirited independence. Born in Toronto, Canada on November 7, 1929 Sue lived a remarkable life that spanned two countries, countless friendships, and nearly a century of adventure.
Sue graduated from high school in Toronto and attended the University of Toronto, where her sharp intellect and curiosity took root. After college, she embraced her adventurous spirit and took a summer job at the Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado. It was there, she met the love of her life, Richard Regier. Their connection was immediate and enduring.
The couple married in Erindale, Canada June 18, 1954 and began a new chapter in Nebraska, where they became lifelong farming partners, south of Hampton. Sue embraced farm life with strength and determination, working side by side with Richard through the seasons, but always making time to cheer on the Nebraska Cornhuskers. She was a proud Canadian by birth, but upon receiving her American citizenship, she became an even prouder American.
Sue was deeply involved in her community and dedicated to service. She was a member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, the Hampton VFW Auxiliary, a 4-H Leader, and coached girls softball. She gave many a golf lesson, was an active member of several bridge clubs, and remained proud of her sorority ties throughout her life. As an avid golfer she was instrumental in starting the ladies league at the Aurora Country Club (now Poco Creek Golf Course). Her love of gardening and landscaping was well known, and she dedicated many hours to beautifying the course she loved so dearly as well as East Park Villa.
After retiring from farming in 1995, Sue and Richard moved to Aurora to enjoy a quieter life together. Though Richard passed away on July 3, 1999, Sue continued to live a full and purposeful life.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother James Leith-Ross; husband, Richard; brother and sister-in-law, Robert L. Regier and Donna Jean Regier.
Those left to cherish her memory are her brother Ian Ross and sister-in-law Jane Ross: two sons, David (Carrie) Regier of Fort Worth, Texas, and Brad (Sheree) Regier of Lincoln; former daughter in-law and longtime friend, ReeAnn Regier; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews and a community who will forever be touched by her wit, and unwavering spirit.
