Stella Schaffert, age 79, of Aurora, passed away on Thursday, January 14, 2021, at Memorial Hospital.
Stella’s wishes were to be cremated and for everyone’s safety, the family will hold a Celebration of Life at a future date.  Higby-McQuiston Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Stella Mae Schaffert, the daughter of Harvey and Viola (Schmutz) Rembolt, was born in Chapman, on August 3, 1941, and passed away in Aurora, on Jan. 14, 2021 at the age of 79.
Stella grew up in Chapman and graduated from Chapman High School in 1959, which was the last graduating class.  She attended beauty school in Grand Island.  Stella was a hairdresser in Aurora for 7 years.Stella was married to Richard Schaffert on Feb. 13, 1966.  They raised two children, Sonja and Eric.  They lived on the farm until moving to the Platte River and then moved into Aurora four years ago.
Stella enjoyed ceramics when the kids were young.  She was co-owner of the Sewing Basket fabric store.  Stella was best known as an artist for her quilting.  The quilt hanging in the Courthouse was made by Stella.  She wrote the newsletter for the State Quilters Guild.  Stella also liked to do knitting and beading.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Eric Schaffert; grandsons, Vincent Schaffert and Jordan Schaffert; brother, Delbert Rembolt and brother-in-law, Don Schaffert.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Richard of Aurora; daughter, Sonja Schaffert of Aurora and 4 grandchildren, Terrance Schaffert, Lexi Schaffert, Olivia and Matthew Luddington.  She is also survived by her sister, Joyce (Gene) Nitsch of Boelus and sister-in-law, Arlene Rembolt of Chapman and two brothers-in-law, Ron (Joyce) Schaffert and Robert (Ilka) Schaffert and many other family members and friends.
