Randal Lawson
Randal Jay Lawson, age 73, of Aurora, was called home surrounded by loved ones on August 27, 2023 at CHI Health St. Francis in Grand Island.
Randy was born June 15, 1950 to Charles and Joe Ann Lawson in Omaha. He grew up as the second oldest of four children.
When the United States went to war in Vietnam, Randy was called to service. The Army sent Randy to Germany to serve as an engineer.
After serving, he came back to Omaha and brought his skills to help maintain the nation’s railroads with Union Pacific.
Randy was no stranger to hardships, but his demeanor could fool you. Several years after coming home, doctors found a tumor in his abdomen. He would receive a similar diagnosis two more times in his life, and he beat the cancer each time.
During the first treatment, he met his nurse and the love of his life, Raylene Eichman. The two were married on February 9, 1987. After many years of hard labor with the railroad, Randy retired and settled in Aurora with his wife.
In 1996, Raylene gave birth to Jacob, their only son. Randy spent retirement raising his boy, and he discovered a new pride and joy in fatherhood.
Randy’s world was upended when Raylene suddenly lost her life in February of 2015. Although widowed, Randy made great strides to live independently. And he did, spending his final years doing odd jobs and enjoying time with friends and family. Even to the end, Randy lived his life on his own terms.
Randy is preceded in death by his wife, Raylene, and his parents, Joe Ann and Charles.
Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Jacob, Lincoln, brother, Steve (Shirley) of Pocatello, Idaho, sisters, Candy Whitt of Basin, WY and Nancy Lawson of Herman, sister-in-laws, Kristi (Tom) Weber of Hampton and Lori Eichman of York, and countless nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, September 2, 2023 at 10 a.m. at United Lutheran Church in Hampton. Internment will be at the United Lutheran Cemetery. Randy wished to be cremated. Memorials can be sent to family for later designation.
