Lois Schuster
Lois Fern Schuster, 93, of Phillips, passed away on June 11, 2025 at The Heritage at Sagewood in Grand Island.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, June 19 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Grand Island. Rev. Jeff Pedersen will officiate. Interment will be in the Phillips Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora. Memorials may be made to the family to designate at a later date. Lois Fern Schuster, the daughter of John and Lula (Winters) Yonker was born December 25, 1931 at Hayes Center, and passed away on June 11, 2025 at Grand Island, at the age of 93.
Lois grew up in Marion, for a short time before the family moved to Phillips, where she graduated from Phillips High School and went on to graduate from Kearney State College, receiving her Bachelors and Masters Degree.
Lois married Donald Schuster on August 27, 1950 at St. Paul’s English Lutheran Church in Grand Island. They were married for 73 years. Don and Lois had four children, Greg, Paula, Carol and Laura. Lois was always a farm wife and mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She worked outside the home as a secretary for the Aurora Jr. High School. Later on Lois was a mental health provider at Mid-Nebraska Mental Health Center.
Lois was involved in many things; Square Dancing, Bridge Club, Eastern Star, St. Paul’s Church Circle, Hamilton County Extension Club, Rolling Eagles Camping Club, Eagles, Platte Deutsche, Liedkranz, Ballroom Dancing, Pitch Club and Phillips Senior Cards. She was involved in her children’s various 4-H Clubs when they were growing up. Lois loved to sew, was an avid reader and researched back several generations of family history.
Don passed away on October 30, 2023. Lois was also preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Claude, Don and Lowell Yonker; sister, Nadine Davis; brother-in-law, Gordon (Dorothy) Schuster; sister-in-law, Jean Schuster, son-in-law, Dale Knefelkamp and one great-grandchild, Will Hope Wolff.
Those left to cherish her memory are her four children, Gregory (Carol) Schuster of Phillips and their children Jason, Kelly (Nate) Israelson and her children, Kaleb (Kaylee) and Hunter Trumble; and Nate’s son, Jax; Paula (Michael) Wolff of Johnstown, Ohio and their children Ryan (Vicki) and their children, Anthony and Aiden Wolff; Tyler (Jessa), and children Judd and Jade; and Ashley Wolff, Carol (Gene) Samuelson of Bertrand and their daughter Calli; Laura (Randy) Roach of Phillips and their step-daughter, Sandy (Ryan) Logue and their children Riley (Aleasha), Braeden, Alec and Gavin and step-daughter, Lexi Roberts and her daughter Alyssa. She is also survived by brother-in-law, Bill Schuster of Phillips and sister-in-law, Pat Merkel of Grand Island and many other relatives and friends.
